The stuff I used to listen to on YO! MTV Raps after schoolNovember 2011

This mixtape is a bunch of records out of my crates (with the exception of the Dollabin Track) that were for the most part pretty underground. In my opinion, all of these tracks probably did not get the play time they deserved, so I put them up here in hopes they may get a few additional listens. It has been way too long since I posted a mixtape, I hope it was worth the wait. I alsohope it won't be so long before the next post...

Strictly breaks in this edition (not the lazy re-issue break records, although I DO own a couple...) Any one who knows my tastes, knows I LOVE me some original breaks, so this mixtape is compiled entirely from original breaks. If you love hip-hop like I do, you should have no problem recognizing some familiar sounds throughout this collage of music.
1. Olivia Newton John 2. Rick Springfield 3. Roy Orbison 4. Herb ALbert Tijuana Brass 5. Neil Sedaka 6. Neil Diamond 7. Hoyt Axton 8. Barbara Streisand 9. You are still reading this? 10. SERIOUSLY? 11. WOW!!!! 12. Go dig for yourself... 13. On second thought, stay home...more vinyl for me

21 used to be my lucky number...may have some history with my adolescent desire to be "of age" back in the day...anyways, Mixtape #21 is an installment of underground hip-hop from my crates, some is old, some is a little bit 'mo-newer, either way the content is classic in my opinion...Hope you agree...

Crucial Riddims Fe 2010 (Jan.2010 Mixtape)
January 10, 2010 09:31 PM PST
Over the years I have had many requests from friends to do a reggae mixtape. While I often incorporate the Jamaican riddims into my sets, I have never done a mix compiled strictly with reggae. This fact is particularly odd due to the fact that reggae is the music that I first began dj'ing with, and was the gateway drug (if you will) into an obsession of crate diggin' for vinyl. When I was younger a close friend of mine, KP, always was (and still is) WAY ahead of everyone else I knew who was diggin' on the reggae vibes. He began buying vinyl due to the fact that so many "rarer" tracks were available only on vinyl. Soon after that I caught the fever, and we began dj'ing reggae together. A few years later I moved from Virginia to the Pacific Northwest, and really began acquiring records...the fever REALLY began to boil. Over the years vinyl has not only become a real obsession, but has also opened my mind to new types of music and artists. I now have a rather extensive vinyl collection of jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop, as well as reggae. I suppose the point of all this is that reggae pretty much started all of this for me. I always wanted more reggae, and the way to dig deeper was to acquire vinyl. Now that theory is applied to MANY more music genres and types of records...
Soooooo....here is the reggae mixtape for all of you who have been asking. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it...Maybe the next one won't take so long!
